Use Writingmate as a Desktop or Mobile App

Writingmate is a Progressive Web App (PWA). A PWA is a website you can install so it opens from an app icon in its own window. You do not need an app store.

Open writingmate.ai in the browser you want to use, then follow the matching instructions below. Browser menu names can change, so use the install option shown by your current browser if its wording is slightly different.

Chrome on Windows, macOS, Linux, or ChromeOS

  1. Open writingmate.ai in Chrome.
  2. If an install icon appears at the right end of the address bar, select it. Otherwise open the Chrome menu and choose Cast, save, and share > Install page as app.
  3. Review the app name, then select Install.

Chrome opens Writingmate in a separate window and adds it to the apps available on your computer. You can manage installed web apps from chrome://apps.

Microsoft Edge on Windows or macOS

  1. Open writingmate.ai in Edge.
  2. Select the app installation icon in the address bar if Edge shows it. If it is not visible, open Settings and more (...) and find Apps > Install this site as an app. On some Edge layouts, Apps is inside More tools.
  3. Confirm the name, then select Install.
  4. Choose any Start menu, taskbar, Dock, or desktop shortcut options that Edge offers.

You can open, pin, or remove the installed app from edge://apps. See Install, manage, or uninstall apps in Microsoft Edge.

Safari on Mac

  1. Open writingmate.ai in Safari.
  2. Choose File > Add to Dock. You can also select the Share button in the Safari toolbar, then choose Add to Dock.
  3. Edit the name if needed, then select Add.

Safari saves the web app in the Applications folder inside your home folder and adds it to the Dock. If Add to Dock is not available, continue using Writingmate in a normal Safari tab or use Chrome or Edge to install it.

Safari on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open writingmate.ai in Safari.
  2. Open the Share menu. Depending on your Safari tab layout, you may first select More, then Share.
  3. Scroll down and select Add to Home Screen. If this action is missing, select Edit Actions and add it.
  4. Turn on Open as Web App if Safari shows that option.
  5. Select Add.

Writingmate appears on the Home Screen and opens as a web app. See Apple's instructions for iPhone or iPad.

Chrome on Android

  1. Open writingmate.ai in Chrome.
  2. Open the Chrome menu (...).
  3. Select Add to home screen > Install.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

The installed app appears on your Home screen and in the Android app list. See Use web apps in Chrome on Android.

What installation changes

Installing Writingmate gives it an app icon and a separate window without normal browser tabs. It does not create a separate Writingmate account or subscription. Sign in with the same Writingmate account you use in the browser.

Writingmate may show a previously visited screen when your device is offline, but chat, model responses, web search, file processing, image generation, and video generation require an internet connection. Installation does not make those features available offline.

If you do not see an install option

  • Make sure you opened https://writingmate.ai/ directly, not an embedded preview.
  • Reload the page after it finishes opening.
  • Check the browser's main menu as well as the address bar or Share menu.
  • On a work or school device, an administrator may block web app installation.
  • You can always use Writingmate in a normal browser tab if installation is unavailable.
