Select and Configure Agents

A saved Agent is a reusable AI helper with its own model, instructions, knowledge files, tools, and conversation starters. Open Agents from the sidebar to view and manage them.

Select an Agent

The Agents page currently has two sections:

  • Your Agents contains Agents you created.
  • Explore agents created for you contains Agents available for you to use.

There is no Agent search field or separate preview step on this page. Browse the cards, then select Chat on an Agent to start a conversation with its saved configuration. The @ shortcut does not select Agents in the current chat interface.

On a card in Your Agents, select Edit to change the configuration. Selecting the rest of your own Agent card also opens Edit Agent. Agents in Explore agents created for you provide Chat, but not editing or deletion controls.

Saved Agents and Agent Mode are different

Saved Agents live on the Agents page. Each one keeps a configuration that you can reuse in later conversations.

Agent Mode is a mode in the regular chat composer, next to Chat and Compare. It lets Writingmate work through a complex, multi-step task. Turning on Agent Mode does not select, create, or edit a saved Agent.

Edit your Agent

Open Agents, find a card under Your Agents, then select Edit. The Edit Agent dialog includes these settings:

  • Agent image: upload, replace, or remove the image shown on the Agent card.
  • Name: the Agent name. This field is required.
  • Model: the single AI model used for Agent chats.
  • Description: a short explanation of the Agent’s purpose. This field is required.
  • Instructions: the behavior, role, and task rules the Agent should follow. This field is required.
  • Temperature: move toward Precise for more consistent responses or Creative for more variation.
  • Context Length: set how much conversation and knowledge context the model can receive, up to the selected model’s limit.
  • Knowledge Files: add private files that give the Agent task-specific context.
  • Agent Integrations: choose available Core Integrations, Canvas tools, one image-generation tool, and tools from connected MCP servers.
  • Conversation Starters: add example prompts shown at the beginning of an Agent chat.

Select Save Changes to apply the update. Cancel closes the dialog without saving the Agent configuration. Files selected under Knowledge Files upload immediately, and Cancel does not undo that upload. The Remove control takes a file out of the Agent’s knowledge list; manage the stored file separately if you no longer need it in your account.

Tool availability depends on the selected model and the integrations connected to your workspace. Use Refresh Tools in Agent Integrations after connecting or changing an MCP server.

Knowledge Files are uploaded to your account and become part of the Agent’s working context. Do not add secrets or personal data unless the Agent needs them for the task.

Delete your Agent

Only an Agent you own can be deleted from this page.

  1. Select Edit on the Agent card.
  2. Select Delete in the Edit Agent dialog.
  3. Review the confirmation, then select Delete Agent.

Deletion is permanent and removes the selected Agent and its associated data. The confirmation cannot be undone.
