Writingmate Privacy Policy

Writingmate.ai is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information Writingmate handles, why it is used, when it is shared, and the controls available to you.

1. Information We Collect

Writingmate supports email verification-code sign-in and Google sign-in. Authentication providers process the credentials and session data needed to sign you in. Writingmate does not store a plain-text password.

Do not put passwords, API keys, payment-card data, government identifiers, health information, or other sensitive information in a chat, file, Agent, saved prompt, support message, or connected service unless it is necessary and you are authorized to provide it.

2. How We Use Information

Writingmate uses information to:

1. provide and maintain chat, files, Projects, Agents, media generation, API, MCP, and other product features;
2. authenticate users, manage workspaces, enforce plan limits, and protect the service from abuse;
3. process subscriptions and maintain billing records;
4. provide customer support and diagnose errors;
5. measure feature use, service performance, and marketing attribution;
6. improve product design, reliability, and safety;
7. send sign-in codes, security messages, billing notices, and material policy or service updates; and
8. send optional product announcements or tips when permitted. Marketing emails include an unsubscribe option.

Writingmate does not use your conversations, files, or other user content to train Writingmate AI models.

3. AI Providers and Connected Services

When you make an AI request, Writingmate sends the selected provider the prompt, relevant conversation history, system instructions, attached file content, tool results, and other context needed to complete that request. Many text-model requests use OpenRouter. Some text, image, video, audio, search, or other features use providers directly.

When you add an OpenRouter key, MCP server, OAuth connection, or another integration, Writingmate stores the configuration needed to use it and exchanges data with that service when you enable or call it. MCP tools can read, create, update, send, or delete data in a connected service. The outside service's privacy policy, retention settings, permissions, and terms also apply.

Writingmate does not use your content to train AI models. Third-party AI and connected-service providers process data under their own terms and privacy practices, which can differ by provider and endpoint. Review those terms before sending sensitive or regulated information.

4. Service Providers, Analytics, and Cookies

Writingmate uses service providers for hosting, authentication, database and file storage, AI processing, payments, analytics, error monitoring, customer support, email delivery, and marketing attribution. These providers receive the information needed to perform their services.

Analytics and support information is not always anonymous. Depending on the feature and provider, events can be associated with an account, email or hashed email, workspace, chat, Agent, page URL, device, or subscription. Writingmate also uses error monitoring and sampled session replay. Diagnostic data can include information visible in the interface or included in an error.

Writingmate uses cookies, browser storage, and similar technologies for authentication, security, preferences, feature flags, analytics, attribution, and service operation. Analytics and attribution providers can receive page-view, conversion, device, network, and event information. Writingmate does not intentionally send saved chat or file content as an advertising event.

Writingmate does not sell or rent your personal information. Writingmate does not sell user content or use the contents of your chats and files to build advertising profiles.

5. Sharing You Choose

Chats are private by default. If you change a chat to Public, anyone with its URL can read the shared conversation without signing in. The public link points to the original chat and can show later saved messages. Changing the chat back to Private stops future access through Writingmate, but it cannot remove copies another person already made.

Do not make a chat public if it contains confidential information, personal data, files, credentials, or content you are not authorized to share. See Share a Chat.

Information can also be disclosed when you direct Writingmate to use an AI provider, API client, MCP server, tool, public share link, or support service.

6. Your Data and Controls

You retain ownership of the content you submit and the outputs generated for you, subject to applicable law and third-party provider rules.

Use Profile Settings → Manage Data to permanently delete selected chats, prompts, files, or Agents across your workspaces. This action does not delete the account, workspace membership, or subscription.

Use Profile Settings → Account → Delete Account to permanently delete your Writingmate account. Account deletion removes the account and associated data from active Writingmate systems, subject to legal, security, fraud-prevention, billing, dispute, and technical retention requirements. It does not remove information that another person copied from a public share or information a third-party service must retain under its own terms.

Depending on where you live, privacy law may provide rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a copy of certain personal information. Email hello@writingmate.ai to make a privacy request. Writingmate may need to verify your identity before completing it.

7. Security

Writingmate uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including:

• HTTPS/TLS encryption while data is transmitted;
• encryption at rest for stored service data;
• authentication, row-level permissions, and access controls;
• hashed storage for Writingmate Developer Keys; and
• logging and monitoring for errors, abuse, and suspicious activity.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Protect your account, Developer Keys, provider API keys, MCP credentials, and public share links. Contact Writingmate promptly if you believe your account or credentials were exposed.

8. Payments

Stripe processes Writingmate card payments. Writingmate does not store or have direct access to your full card number or CVC. Stripe can provide Writingmate with a customer reference, subscription and invoice information, payment status, and limited payment-method details so Writingmate can operate billing and provide support.

Stripe's privacy policy and payment terms apply to its processing.

9. Retention

Writingmate retains personal information for as long as needed to provide the service, meet the purposes in this policy, comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud or abuse, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

Deleting selected data removes it from active Writingmate systems. If you delete your account, Writingmate removes account-associated personal information from active systems promptly. Writingmate backups are purged within 30 days unless a legal requirement requires longer retention.

Service providers can retain information under their own retention schedules and legal obligations. Aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer reasonably identify you may be retained for analytics, security, and service improvement.

10. Changes to This Policy

Writingmate may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, Writingmate may notify you by email, in-product notice, or an update to this page before or when the changes take effect, as required by applicable law.
