AppSumo Plan Tiers
An AppSumo license is a one-time purchase that provides lifetime access while the license remains active under the AppSumo purchase terms. Each tier includes monthly credit pools. The pools reset on the monthly anniversary of activation; unused credits do not carry into the next period.
Prices, sale availability, and marketplace terms can change. Check the Writingmate AppSumo page and your AppSumo purchase terms before buying or changing a tier.

Unlimited* Basic-model use is subject to the Fair Use Policy. All four tiers receive Pro-level feature access. Model availability can change as Writingmate updates its catalog.
How credits and daily pacing work
The monthly pools and daily pacing limits are separate:
- A completed Pro-model request uses one Pro credit from the monthly pool.
- A completed Ultimate-model request uses one Ultimate credit from the monthly pool.
- Daily pacing uses counted messages, which are based on tokens. One counted message covers up to 16,000 effective tokens. A long request, large file, or long chat history can use more than one counted message toward the daily limit.
- Access pauses for that model category when either its monthly pool or its daily pacing limit is exhausted.
- Daily pacing resets at 00:00 UTC. Monthly pools reset on the activation-date anniversary.
If an activation anniversary falls on a day that is not present in a shorter month, the reset occurs on that month's last day at the original activation time in UTC.
Writingmate chat and text requests made through the OpenAI-compatible API use the same Pro and Ultimate pools and daily pacing limits. See Message Limits for the token-counting formula.
Image and video usage
- A successful image generation or edit uses one image credit. A failed generation does not use a completed image credit.
- A video request reserves the selected number of seconds from the video pool. If the request fails to start, Writingmate returns the reserved seconds.
The image and video pools reset with the other monthly pools. See AI Image Generation and AI Video Generation for model-specific behavior.
OpenAI-compatible API and BYOK
All four tiers can create a Writingmate Developer Key for the OpenAI-compatible API. Developer Key access is currently an alpha, fair-use feature, and API availability is not guaranteed. API requests use the current workspace's pools unless a supported request is routed through your own OpenRouter key.
OpenRouter BYOK means bring your own key. Add an OpenRouter API key under Profile Settings → API Keys to have supported model requests billed to your OpenRouter account. BYOK can bypass Writingmate message limits for supported requests, but it does not unlock plan-restricted models or replace separate image, video, and provider requirements.
See Set Up Your API Keys and OpenAI-Compatible API for setup and security guidance.
Activate an AppSumo license
Activation uses AppSumo authorization. There is no manual license-key field in the current Writingmate flow.
- Open your products in AppSumo and find Writingmate.
- Start the activation or connection from AppSumo and authorize Writingmate.
- Sign in to Writingmate if asked.
- Confirm that the success page shows the expected tier, then open Profile Settings → Subscription to review the credit pool and next reset date.
The license is linked to the workspace that is current during activation. A license already linked to another workspace cannot be redeemed again there. If you already pay for a Writingmate subscription, activating an AppSumo license does not automatically cancel that subscription. Cancel the separate subscription in Profile Settings → Subscription if you do not want another renewal.
Manage, upgrade, or refund a license
Open Profile Settings → Subscription to see the AppSumo tier, remaining credit pools, and next reset date. Select Manage on AppSumo to manage the marketplace license or change tiers.
Tier upgrades and downgrades are handled through AppSumo. Writingmate updates the connected workspace after it receives the license change. Credits already used in the current period remain used; changing tiers does not start a new monthly period.
AppSumo purchases use AppSumo's 60-day money-back guarantee and refund process. Request the refund from AppSumo, not Writingmate. A refunded or deactivated license no longer provides its AppSumo entitlements. See the Writingmate Refund Policy.
Troubleshooting
- Make sure you are signed in to the Writingmate account and workspace you intend to link.
- If AppSumo reports that the license is inactive, activate it in AppSumo before trying again.
- If the tier or credits do not refresh, sign out and sign back in, then check Profile Settings → Subscription.
- If the problem continues, email hello@writingmate.ai from your Writingmate account email. Include your AppSumo order number and the workspace name. Do not email your full license key, Developer Key, OpenRouter key, or payment details.
