Profile and User Settings

Use Settings to manage your account preferences, plan, usage, model list, data, API keys, and MCP connections.

To open Settings:

  1. Select your name or avatar at the bottom of the Writingmate sidebar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose a section from the settings sidebar. On a small screen, use the sidebar button next to the page title.

Select Back to App to return to your previous Writingmate screen.

Account

Open Account to update personal preferences:

  • Change your display name or profile image. Your email address and current plan are shown for reference.
  • Turn AI Memory Settings on or off.
  • Add information under What would you like the AI to know about you? Writingmate can include this profile context in future chats when memory is enabled.
  • Edit the System Prompt Template. It must keep the required variables {local_date}, {profile_context}, {assistant}, and {prompt}.
  • Set the Large Text Paste Threshold. When pasted text is longer than this number of characters, Writingmate offers to attach it as a file instead.

Select Update Profile to save these changes.

The Delete Account area is also on this page. Deleting an account is permanent and removes its data. Use it only when you intend to close the account, and read the confirmation before continuing.

Subscription

Open Subscription to see your current plan, message limits, renewal or access-end date, and purchase history when available. Workspace owners can compare plans, manage a paid subscription, or start the cancellation flow from this section.

Usage

Open Usage to review monthly message and token statistics. The page shows messages sent, input tokens, output tokens, daily usage, and usage by model. Use the month controls to review a different period, or select a day in the chart to narrow the model totals.

Usage statistics describe past activity. Your current plan allowances appear under Subscription and in the model usage indicator in chat.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Open Keyboard Shortcuts to choose how the composer sends a message:

  • Enter sends the message.
  • Cmd/Ctrl + Enter sends the message, leaving plain Enter available for a new line.

You can also change the Prompt command used to insert a saved prompt. Select Save Shortcuts to apply changes or Reset to defaults to restore the default values. See Using Shortcuts.

AI Models

Open AI Models to choose which text models appear in the chat model selector. Search or filter the catalog, then select or clear models. Hiding a model removes it from your selector; it does not change your plan or delete past chats.

Plan labels and access indicators show which models your current workspace can use. See Supported AI Models.

Manage Data

Open Manage Data to permanently delete selected data types across all your workspaces. You can select All Chats, All Prompts, All Files, or All Agents.

This page deletes data; it does not export a profile backup. Deletion cannot be undone. Check the selected data types before choosing Delete Selected Data. See Data Collection.

API Keys

Open API Keys to manage two different kinds of key:

  • An OpenRouter API Key lets Writingmate use an OpenRouter account that you manage and pay for separately.
  • A Writingmate Developer Key is a password-like token for the OpenAI-compatible API. Requests use the current workspace and Writingmate's message-counting rules.

The full Developer Key is shown only once when it is created. Copy it to a secure password manager and never place it in public code, screenshots, or support messages. You can revoke a key from this page. Developer Key availability and limits can change while the API is in alpha.

MCP Integration

Open MCP Integration to connect MCP servers and make their tools available in supported chats. MCP is a standard that lets an AI app use outside tools.

Use Integrations for the guided server list or JSON Editor for an advanced configuration. Server credentials and authorization details can be sensitive. Add only servers you trust, review the tools they expose, and do not share configuration screenshots that contain secrets. See MCP Integration.

Workspace Settings and Members

Workspaces are controlled by a feature flag, so these sections appear only when workspace management is enabled for your account.

  • Workspace Settings controls the workspace name and image, default model, default system prompt, model selector visibility, and other workspace-wide options. Owners can also delete the workspace from this page.
  • Members lets an owner invite members, view roles and invitation status, and remove members.

Workspace changes affect other people who use that workspace. Review the workspace name in the app before saving settings or changing membership.

Theme and Language

Theme and language controls are in the profile menu, not in a settings tab. Select your name or avatar at the bottom of the app sidebar, then choose Switch to dark mode or Switch to light mode. Open Language to choose an available interface language.
